Recommendation written by Ben Braun

I would like to recommend The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. It tells of the epic history of the Elves that was only alluded to or mentioned in passing in The Lord of the Rings. It is a dense read but a necessary one for all fans of Tolkien.
